This was a wonderful weekend! I missed last year, so very glad to have made it this year. The roads were outstanding, the weather perfect, and the fellow riders were the best! Thanks to the camper crowd for welcoming one of the hoteliers into their midst on Saturday night. I'm ready for next year!

The Cloudcroft Camp & Ride is coming up! For all the details, see the first posting under this topic. Today I called the FS Area Manager and confirmed the following information:

-- There are no fire restrictions this year so we can use the charcoal grills provided at the site and can have a campfire in the steel fire ring.

-- We can collect "dead and down" firewood around the site and we can bring our own firewood if we like. If you are driving down in one of those weird vehicles with two extra wheels and would like to bring some firewood, that would be great.

-- There is water available at the site.

-- Our reservation for the Lower Fir Group Campsite is confirmed.

For those who would like to ride down to Cloudcroft with a group, meet at the Smith's parking lot at Tramway and Central (200 Tramway Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87123) Friday morning at 8:45 am for a prompt 9 am departure. We will likely stop for lunch somewhere along the way. Takes about 4 hours riding time to get to the campsite.

Should be a great time! Yoohoo!

Michelle and I are in, camping at the Dusty Boots Motel. Cloudcroft has a Brewpub, too. Looks to have Pizza, along with their ales. https://www.yelp.com/biz/cloudcroft-brewing-company-cloudcroft

Camp & Ride to Cloudcroft - June 7-9 2019

Postby SandyBallard » Sun Oct 14, 2018 8:10 am

The first Camp & Ride of 2019 will take place Friday June 7 through Sunday June 9 at the Lower Fir Group Campsite located about a mile from Cloudcroft. At an elevation of 8700 feet, it should be nice and cool so come on out and beat the heat in the rest of New Mexico.

As with all Camp & Rides, this is a self supported trip which means you need to bring your own camping gear, cooking equipment, food and libations. Water and firewood are available at the site, so don't worry about that. The club is picking up the tab for the campsite, which has a large covered pavilion with multiple picnic tables and will accommodate up to 70 people. If you would rather stay in a motel the Dusty Boots Motel in Cloudcroft (http://dustybootsmotel.com) is only about a mile away and you are welcome to join us at the campsite for social time.

Cloudcroft is about 200 miles / 4 hours from Albuquerque via Claunch and Alamogordo.

There is paved road all the way to the campground and even the parking lot is paved. The gps coordinates of the campground are 32.96803, -105.73395.

More info about the campground can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/lincoln/recarea/?recid=34210

There are several excellent rides in the area and we would imagine that folks will go and ride some of them on Saturday June 8.

Here is a link to the forum postings about last year's ride where you can find member comments and links to photo albums, etc.:

Hope to see you out there!
