Great video! I should have found the time to take my RZR down for one last great adventure on the little guy. :?

Looks like conditions and weather was good. Looking forward to Cloudcroft this June.

We had a great time on the club trip to Big Bend! Berthold Klas made a great video during our trip (https://youtu.be/Nbc1WjEEjRU) and also posted a whole bunch of awesome photos (https://bertklas.smugmug.com/LOEBMW-Big-Bend-Adventure). It is hard to take a bad picture of people having that much fun. Thank you Bert!

I am going and have made reservation at the lodge. David Jordan is also going. Not sure if he has replied to your request.

I am trying to get a handle on who is planning to go on this trip. If you think you might go, please shoot me an email at activities@loebmwr.org. Please let me know how certain you are that you will participate, what days you plan to be there, and whether or not you have made a reservation at the lodge.

Just so you know, Amy and I need to be back in Albuquerque on March 7 so we will driving down there on Friday March 1 (with dual sport bikes in tow) and return on Wednesday March 6, one day earlier than we originally intended.

Thanks,
Sandy Ballard

I plan on coming and tent camping. Flying back to ABQ late on Fri 3/1.
I ride a F700GS. Anyone leaving on 3/2 who wants to ride together?

Hi Sandy:
I am going. I just called the ranch and they tell me that there is no need for a tent camping reservation ("we never run out of tent camping spots"). Looking forward to ride and hang out with everyone.

Richard Gibbens is a dual sport rider who has written a ton of stuff about riding in Texas. His website http://www.texasadventure.net is an excellent resource.

He has also written a booklet about riding in the Big Bend area "Big Bend - A Guide for All Motorcyclists" which you can order here: http://www.texasadventure.net/cool-stuff/ride-guides ($25). I purchased a copy and will bring it with me on the trip in March. In it, he describes 10 dual sport rides and 4 paved road rides in the BB area. He also provides GPX tracks for the rides, which are available here
http://www.texasadventure.net/bigbendrideguide.

I took the GPX tracks and imported them into two Google Maps available here:

See you in Texas!

There is no real need to sign up for this event but if you let me know you plan to come it would be great, just so Frank and I have some idea of how many folks are coming.

The only thing you really need to do is call the Lodge and make your reservation. Even if you plan to camp there, it would be a good idea to call.

I'm getting excited!

Hi Sandy:

Same here. I like to attend and I am wondering if I need to somehow sign up or RSVP. Also, do you recommend calling them regarding a tent camping spot?

thanks,

Hi Sandy,

I would like to attend the Big Bend event, but do not see anywhere to sign up. Is signing up necessary, or can I just show up?

Thanks!

Frank Pierce and I have compiled some information about some rides, on both dirt and paved roads, in Big Bend that we might want do during out club outing to the area March 2 - 7.

For road warriors, check out this Google Map:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1c5VDP4aDybTiFPJ_F-vwPR87eVrYCw9N&usp=sharing

For dirt baggers, check out this one:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1SkYhvGOmIX6xEAbt5jine-Wv_ZShO6OH&usp=sharing

These rides are preliminary and may be updated in the future, so check back from time to time to see if anything has changed. If you have any comments or suggestions about these rides, or other rides we might want to do, please let us know.

At some point, I will produce KMZ and GPX files for these rides to aid with navigation.

BTW: The place we are staying, Terlingua Ranch Lodge (http://www.terlinguaranch.com), is not holding rooms for us anymore but may still have some available. Better make your reservations soon, however, they may not be available forever.

Due to room availability issues we had to change the dates of the Big Bend Adventure to Saturday March 2nd through Thursday March 7. Sorry for the confusion!

Join LOEBMWR this Spring on everyone’s epic bucket list ride through the backcountry of Big Bend National Park. Start planning now for March 2 - 7th in Texas.

We will base ourselves out of the Terlingua Ranch Lodge (http://www.terlinguaranch.com) which is holding a block of 12 rooms for us until January 2nd. Call them up at 432-371-3146 to reserve your spot and be sure to mention you are with the LOEBMWR. Double rooms will cost $84/night including tax, a 25% discount off the regular price. They also have RV and tent camping if you prefer those accommodations.

This place is located not far Big Bend National Park and is also close to Big Bend Ranch State Park. There is GREAT riding in the area, both for road warriors and dirt baggers. Note that the last 3 miles of the road to the Lodge is well maintained, graded gravel. The management asked me to say that the Ranch is located in a residential area and asked that we not ride around off the main road.

Additional information about travel to TX and about the various road and dirt rides in the area will be forthcoming as the date approaches.

Many thanks to Frank Pierce (fcpierce@comcast.net) for motivating this event and doing a bunch of work to make it happen!
