Correction - my previous post stated we would stop for gas in Farmington but I meant Bloomfield and that's about 160 miles from ABQ. The original post has been corrected.

Still have spots available, hope to see you there!

Hi Everyone,

We were in Ouray last week and the Aspens were just beginning to change at the higher elevations, should time out perfectly with maximum colors for our ride in 1.5 weeks.

I will be leading this event for the club and plan to arrive at the Siesta Motel close to their 3:00 check in time.

Anyone interested in riding along can meet me at the Valero gas station / Bien Muir Smoke shop located on the south side of Tramway Rd., directly across from the Sandia Casino. I plan to be there about 11:00 with kickstands up at 11:15 on Friday, 9/30. I will take 550 and ride 5 mph over the speed limit. We'll make a brief gas / rest stop in Bloomfield which is about 160 miles from the Sandia Casino. As always, you're welcome to ride your own ride and we'll see you in Durango.

There are still 6 rooms available at the Siesta according to their website, https://www.durangosiestamotel.com. If you want to participate in this club gathering / ride and haven't reserved your room yet, time's running out.

The club is buying pizza or calzones for paid members, and we will plan to eat Friday at about 5:00pm in the parking lot of the Siesta. We will be taking pizza orders about 4:00 to give the pizza place time to make the pizzas and deliver for a 5:00 meal. We will be ordering from Home Slice Pizza, https://www.toasttab.com/homeslice-pizza-north-main/v3, so if you won't be at the hotel by 4:00 then please look at the menu and call me in advance (505) 280-8621 to let me know what to order for you. And don't forget to bring your beverage of choice - there is a liquor store about 3 blocks south of the Siesta (just past City Market) on the opposite side of the street from the motel

The Saturday ride is entirely up to you...some people go clockwise from Durango traveling 160 west to Dolores and then up 145 to Telluride, then over to Ridgway, down through Ouray to Silverton and then to Durango while others will go counter clockwise heading north out of Durango. Either way will be a beautiful ride. If you've never done this before be forewarned that portions of the road on Red Mountain Pass (between Silverton and Ouray) are narrow with steep drop-offs and no guard rails. It's a fully paved 2 lane road but the edge of the road can be a little surprising if you're not expecting it. Otherwise Red Mountain Pass has some beautiful views as does nearly all of the loop we will be riding.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Durango in a couple of weeks!

Fall Colors Ride, Sept 30-Oct. 2, 2022

Call the Siesta Motel in Duragno for reservations. Tell them you are with the Land of Enchantment BMW Riders Club or something like New Mexico BMW Motorcycle Club. Call: 877-314-0741 OR (https://www.durangosiestamotel.com).

The weekend of September 30 through October 2 we will repeat our popular club ride to Durango and ride the loop from Durango - Silverton - Ouray - Telluride - Dolores - Durango during (hopefully) the peak of the fall colors. Currently, we need a club member to lead the ride and be the contact person. Let RJ know at Activities@loebmwr.org.

RSVP here for the Club ride.

The ride is about 225 miles and Google says it should take about 4:45 riding time.

We will ride up to Durango on Friday afternoon September 30, 2022, arriving by about 5 pm, and stay 2 nights at the Siesta Motel . Everyone is on their own to make hotel reservations at the Siesta. You should make your reservations early (SEE ABOVE announcement because they are a popular motel, in a popular town, at a very popular time of year.

Friday night, club members will enjoy some pizza in the motel parking lot. After the ride on Saturday, we will hop on the Durango trolley to go into town and have dinner at an as-yet-to-be-identified eatery. Then we will ride home on Sunday morning.

Logistical details relative to meeting places and times, both in Albuquerque and Durango will be forthcoming as the date approaches.
