An eating club with a riding problem

17 Riders descended on the Alpine Alley in Mountainair on Sunday for a lovely lunch in a cute little restaurant. It was a beautiful day to be out: sunny, no wind, but maybe a bit chilly. Those with the ability to circulate some electrons through their heated gear were mostly doing it on the ride! While there was plenty of seating in the restaurant, I think the onslaught was more than the kitchen staff are used to and it took awhile to get us all fed. Simply gave us more opportunity to enjoy each other's company!

After lunch, most folks headed back to town but a few hardy souls followed Frank Pierce on a bit of dirt riding in the foothills of the Monzanos. The original plan of riding up to Capilla Peak was abandoned due to the high likelihood of mud and snow after the storm last week but we still managed to ride around on some dirt roads in the vicinity of Fouth of July Canyon. Many thanks to Frank for leading this effort!

Lunch Rendezvous - Sunday November 18, 2018

After lunch in Mountainair Frank Pierce is going to lead a dirt ride up to the summit of Capilla Peak in the Monzanos. This is a relatively straightforward gravel Forest Service road that starts in the town of Manzano and runs up to some radio towers on the crest of the Manzanos at about 9300 ft elevation. The ride is about 9 miles long, gains about 3000 ft elevation and, according to Google Maps, should take about 40 minutes each way. Sounds like a blast!

Here is screenshot and link to Google Map of the ride:

The gps coordinates of the beginning of the gravel road in Manzano are 34.64754, -106.34488 and Capilla Peak is located at 34.70142, -106.40155.

Thank you Frank for leading this ride!

Cheers,
Sandy
