The club motorcycle gang of malfactors descended on the La Junta campground at the Wild and Scenic River near Questa last weekend and had a great time.

Many thanks to Jan for taking some great photos and sharing them in a Google Photos album!

Amy, Jan, Larry and I took the High Road to Taos and had Lunch at the Ranchos Plaza Grill. En route to the campground we took a diversion to ride the Ski Rio Riding Challenge Gold Road. We were joined at the campground by Rod, Andy, Art and Lynda. In the morning, Amy and I enjoyed a hike out the confluence of the Red River and the Rio Grande while Lynda and Art took off to ride a bunch of the Riding Challenge Gold Roads in the Enchanted Circle area. The weather was perfect! Sunny and warm, and it stayed remarkably warm even overnight. And no bugs! September is an ideal time to visit this beautiful corner of our lovely state.

That's it for Camp & Rides this year. Look for a Camp & Ride to Cloudcroft next June and a joint Camp & Ride with the Colorado BMW club in Chama over the 4th of July. If you have any favorite camping destinations you think would be appropriate for additional club Camp & Rides next year, please let me know. Next year we will also do some motel-based club rides.

Cheers,
Sandy

Gotta make this last camp & ride of the summer in order to keep my perfect attendance in tact. I must say that I have had a lot of fun on these outings while seeing more of our scenic state.
For you more adventurous kiddos there is plenty to do here in the way of hiking. Hike down to the confluence taking the stairs and a well defined short trail for an unusual sight of two major rivers joining forces. Another scenic hike nearby is the Big Arsenic/Little Arsenic Springs trail that follows the river bank. Dropping down a very steep switchback trail provides photo opportunities galore as you quickly descend several hundred feet.

Camp & Ride to Rio Grande del Norte September 22, 2018

Postby SandyBallard » Mon Jun 25, 2018 6:54 am

The 4th Annual Ride & Camp to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument will take place Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, 2018 (one night). We have reserved the group campsite at La Junta Campground which is right out on the point overlooking the junction of the Rio Grande and Red Rivers (the view is stunning!).

This is a self supported trip so bring everything you need in the way camping gear, food, libations, etc. There is water and firewood available at the campground, so don’t worry about that. The club is picking up the tab for the group campsite, which includes camping and the day use fees for 15 vehicles.

To find the campground, go north a couple of miles from the town of Questa, NM and turn left toward the Monument when you see the sign. Once in the park, keep going south until you can go south no more and then you will be at the campground. The GPS coordinates are 36.65668, -105.68556.

If you would like to ride up with a group, meet at the Phillips 66 Gas Station at 1660 Roy Avenue, just west of Tramway and I-25. Meet Saturday morning at 8:45 for a prompt 9 am departure. The group will ride the route depicted in the Google Map available here:
