Ice Cream Ride - May 4-6 2018

An eating club with a riding problem

Frank Pierce and I are talking about taking the Continental Divide Ride on the way down to Glenwood. We don't have an exact plan, but the idea is to leave from Grants on Friday morning. And follow part of this section to Glenwood:
https://sites.google.com/site/gpskevin/ ... section-18

We might split the trail section in two: doing part on the way down on Friday, and part on the way back on Sunday. If you're interested in joining, send me a message and we can work on a plan. This is new territory for me, so if anyone has any advice or suggestions, please let me know too!

Rod, our fearless president adds this caution about anyone staying at Los Olmos: "The lawn has a sprinkler system installed. Due to possible damage to your tire and/or to our system there will be an extra $50 FEE for driving on the lawn." There are other items to keep in mind. Check the Forum soon for full details.

Not sure what you're asking...

Some folks arrive at Glenwood Thursday night, some folks arrive at Glenwood Friday night depending on your schedule and hotel room availability.

The event ends Sunday which is when the group departs Glenwood.

The club will host a picnic dinner Saturday night at the Los Olmos outdoor pavilion, catered by Eddy Seiler from Golden Girls Cafe. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to activities@loebmwr.org by Wednesday April 25. If you just show up without sending an RSVP your chances of getting anything to eat are slim!

I made a Google Map with the Riding Challenge Rides that one might conceivably ride as part of the Ice Cream Ride coming up in a couple of weeks. I think it is true that you can't even get to Glenwood from Albuquerque on paved roads without riding one of these rides!

These rides, along with all the other Riding Challenge rides are in the GPX file that Bede made and which you can download here:

and here are some tips on how to use gpx files with your Garmin gps:

As of today, Los Olmos Lodge still has 6 rooms reserved for us, they held them beyond Jan 31 as a courtesy but that courtesy is about to run out.

If you're planning to go and you don't yet have a room, this is a great place to stay. Nice rooms and right in the middle of all the after ride action.

Call Kerry at 575-539-2224 to make your reservation before they expire and / or disappear.

Ice Cream Ride - May 4-6 2018

Postby SandyBallard » Sun Jan 14, 2018 7:46 pm

Time to start thinking about the annual Ice Cream Ride to beautiful and hospitable Glenwood, NM. The ride will take place Friday May 4 through Sunday May 6. The Los Olmos Lodge (http://www.losolmoslodge.com; (575)539-2224) is holding a block of rooms for us, but only until January 31. If you would like to stay there, please call and make a reservation before then and mention the Land of Enchantment BMW Riders club. If a bunch of us make reservations we will get to use their pavilion, which is very nice. Another option is the Whitewater Motel (575.539.2581). More details about the ride will be coming later.

The club will host a picnic dinner Saturday night, catered by Eddy Seiler from Golden Girls Cafe. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to activities@loebmwr.org asap.

There are a bunch of great rides in the Glenwood area. Many of them are part of this year's Riding Challenge - Gold Roads of New Mexico. Here is a link to a Google Map with more info about the Riding Challenge: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QIGI_bGfBcw0LWfjbPGkMeuuNUrp99FN&usp=sharing

Happy Trails,
