Eleven riders made the journey to Tumbleweeds Diner in Magdalena this past weekend. Riding temps were nice...not too hot and not too cold, and traffic was light as you would expect it to be mid-morning on a Sunday.
We were joined by Carla who was riding solo on her Harley Trike, pulling a trailer, traveling west to her home in Prescott. She told us she needed a break and saw us pulling into Tumbleweeds so she decided it must be a good place to stop if all the other bikers were there. She told us she used to own an airhead 'back in the day' and really enjoyed that bike. She obviously also enjoys her current bike as she's riding it all over the country.
Tumbleweeds is a very small place, holding maybe 20 people. They told us they get a food delivery on Friday and when they run out of an item they won't have it back on the menu until the next food delivery. Lunch was delicious according to the comments heard around the table. The smothered rice bowl was tasty and the double stack Joe burger, named for a local who helped create the menu, was a full Sunday meal. The Mac N' Cheese with bacon and green chile was also a delight.
Tumbleweeds had a sign on the door that the restaurant was closed until noon due to a 'private party'. We were the 'private party', had the place to ourselves and our food came out surprisingly quick.
For the ride home the weather service was calling for a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms along our route. We managed to hit a few rain drops on the way back but most were prepared with the appropriate wet weather gear.
It was nice to see Humberto who rode up from Chaparral. He said he started his ride at 7:15am that morning and we were glad he made the effort. All in all it was a great ride with a stop for some great food in middle of it, and I'm looking forward to another Tumbleweed visit.
