That it is. The name derives from when US 191 was numbered US 666.

As spooky as he looks, I can confirm that 'creature' doesn't have a tail ;-)
Life can be more exciting when viewed at different angles...

Very nice. We usually do the Devils highway ride at least twice a year so I will consider this.
We really love the Tal-Wi-Wi lodge, check out their website. You are correct about doing the highway from south to north. From Alpine we go west, cross into New Mexico head south and do the loop, the loop is 200 miles plus and is an all day ride but definitely worth it. The Copper mine in Morenci is incredible as is the entire region. I must say this is my favorite area in around New Mexico to ride in. Last year while riding the highway north to Alpine we saw at least half a dozen creatures run across the road in front of us that looked like monkeys with long horizontal tails, don't know what they were, but it was spooky.

If you need a tune up ride, we generally do this from Morenci north, staying in Glenwood. See the Ice Cream Ride, May 5-8: http://loebmwr.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4792

Memorial day Devils Highway ride

Postby awencel » Fri Feb 05, 2016 7:42 am

A few of us are headed to Alpine Arizona to do our annual Devils Highway ride. If you haven't been there, it's the Tail of the Dragon stretched out for 100 miles, with no services, just the White Mountains stretching out to the horizon. The road is recommended for experienced riders.
We will be staying at the Tal-Wi-Wi lodge. The remodeled rooms are 5 star but the price is three. The lodge is very bike friendly and many bikers stay there.
The lodge also has a saloon and restaurant on the premises. We will be staying Friday and Saturday nights. Come join in the fun.
