2013 R1200GS LC Red Warning Light - Battery

Postby dbserrano » Mon Jul 31, 2017 8:33 am

Hello all, first time post here. I bought my 2013 R1200GS LC back in 2015 and have put about 7,500 miles on it. Now it's a total of 17,500 miles. It's been a dream, but last week the red warning light came on with the battery symbol. Battery is only 2 years old and passes a load test so I think it's fine. I put the voltmeter to the leads and spun the engine to 4,000 rpm and it's putting about 12.2v back into the battery. I think it should be around 14 volts. I hope and pray it's not the alternator as 2013 has the alternator in-engine. Looking for any feedback on troubleshooting. Anyone with a GS911 tool close to Rio Rancho, NM? Sandia BMW is pretty booked and of course, saving hundreds is always preferable.
